Upcoming closure of the Newell Highway between Forbes and West Wyalong
Transport for NSW is preparing to close a section of the Newell Highway, between Forbes and West Wyalong in order to carry out emergency repair work due to the ongoing extreme weather.
Timing of the start of the closure is currently being finalised and must wait until after the key diversion route, Henry Lawson Way, reopens to traffic. At this stage the closure is expected to be in place for up to two weeks.
We will provide another update to industry before this closure occurs once we have more clarity over the forecast weather impacts in the area.
Currently, heavy vehicles in both directions are being escorted through the impacted section of the Newell Highway due to the extent of damage to the road.
The closure is to carry out unavoidable emergency work to retain and repair the road surface at a number of causeways that have been under water for several weeks following heavy rainfall and flooding in the region. This action is being taken to keep the highway safe and to avoid a likely longer-term closure if no action is taken.
Further details about timing for the closure and the detour route will be communicated at least 48 hours before the closure takes place. Road closures and diversion routes will be available at livetraffic.com.
