CHANGE OF DIRECTION FOR HEHIR'S TRANSPORT
Ross and Andrea Hehir, who have operated Hehir’s Transport in Rand Victoria for 40 years have announced a change in direction for them personally and for their business.
They have reached an agreement with Lawson Grains to take over the Hehir’s Transport and Hehir’s Grain Storage businesses.
In a statement released this week, Ross and Andrea extended their gratitude and sincere thank you to all their business partners who have supported and worked with them for all or a part of their 40+ years in business.
“It has been an incredible journey for us. We have seen the worst of droughts, the best of seasons and all the in between. The agricultural world is tough though rewarding and has its own character, as you well know. We sincerely believe primary production is the backbone of our country, and we feel quite privileged to have been a part of it”, they said.
Hehir’s Transport was established in 1954, in Rand by Jack and Tom Hehir, Ross’s father and uncle. They started with 1 truck locally freighting livestock, bagged grain and goods including kegs of beer to the local hotels. In 1993, Ross and Andrea took over the business and expanded into grain storage in 1999.
Ross and Andrea said that the future looks bright for Hehir’s Transport and Hehir’s Grain Storage.
“Lawson Grains have been a major customer and trusted partner of our business for many years. We believe they will bring significant financial and operational capabilities to the business.
“All sites will continue to operate in the same capacity as they did with us. All of our employees will continue under the new ownership, and you should see no material changes in the day-to-day operation of the sites, or in the service provided to you.”
Ross will continue to assist in the management and running of the business for a transitional period of six to twelve months.
LBRCA thank Ross and Andrea for their support of the Association over the many years and wish them the very best for their next adventure. Congratulations on 40 years of success.
TRANSPORT MUSTER PLACES EMPHASIS ON IMPROVING CHAIN OF RESPONSIBILITY IN THE LIVESTOCK INDUSTRY
LBRCA was pleased to represent members at the Meat and Livestock Australia Transport Muster held at Wagga Wagga Livestock Exchange on Wednesday 12 April.
The Muster aimed to obtain feedback on what should be included in a new transport hub. The hub aims to provide industry access to information and resources relating to the movement of livestock in one, easy-to-access location.
A broad range of industry stakeholders were in the room including producers, agents and transporters. It was agreed that much more needs to be done to improve chain of responsibility in the livestock industry, particularly around curfew, mass, and load restraint challenges.
LBRCA strongly supported the proposal to undertake comprehensive research on relevant livestock-related topics such as the effect of curfew in livestock transportation.
